CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Freshman
Abigail Rickermann broke a scoreless drought with a pinch-hit RBI-single in the bottom of the sixth inning to help send Southeast Missouri (20-12) to its 20th win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Saint Louis (11-22) Wednesday.
Rachel Anderson was in scoring position after reaching on a one-out double to left center before Rickermann came to the plate. Rickermann singled to center and Anderson scored the go-ahead run. After advancing to second on the throw, Rickermann wound up at third on the same play due to an error. She then touched home when pinch-hitter
Kimmy Wallen reached on an error.
Paytience Holman and
Marisa Davis kept the Billikens off the scoreboard for the first five innings.
Davis gave way to
Rachel Rook in the sixth inning. Rook (13-7) went on to retire SLU in order in the sixth and struck out the final three hitters she faced in the seventh to grab her team and Ohio Valley Conference high 13th win of the season. The 13 wins are the most in any season during Rook's career to date.
SLU had its best chance to score when it had runners at second and third in the top of the second inning, but Holman put an end to that threat when she struck out Jocelyn Abbott.
After that, the Billikens had just one runner in scoring position the rest of the way.
Aubrey Hacke (6-8) suffered the loss. Hacke allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two in one inning.
Chloe Wendling and Kaiya Luneckas combined on a one-hitter through five innings before Hacke pitched.
Anderson,
Kynzie Wrigley and Rickermann each had a hit. Wrigley extended her hitting streak to 14 games with her two-out single to left in the first inning.
SEMO took both games of its home-and-home series against SLU this year.
The OVC leading Redhawks host second-place Eastern Kentucky in a three-game series on Apr. 17-18.
