MARTIN, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (7-2, 7-2 OVC) increased its win streak to seven matches after it swept UT Martin (5-4, 5-4 OVC) 25-22, 25-16, 25-21 Sunday at the Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
SEMO captured its second-straight 3-0 sweep of the 2020-21 season Sunday.
Laney Malloy paced the Redhawks with 14 kills and 10 digs and an ace for her fifth consecutive double-double of the campaign.
Colby Greene registered her sixth double-digit kill outing of the year, finishing with 12.
Zoey Beasley added 10 and has now tallied 10 or more kills in the last five Redhawk matches. She also had a career-high seven digs.
Claire Ochs dished out 34 assists with 13 digs and an ace as SEMO hit at a rate of .208. UTM concluded the match with a clip of .079.
SEMO jumped out to a 4-0 lead that grew to 8-1. A 3-0 run from the Skyhawks evened the set at 14-14.
The Redhawks then distanced themselves from UTM with a 3-0 rally that finished with a Greene rally stopper, 18-15.
Malloy added a kill to make the SEMO edge 22-20 before SEMO claimed the set with three straight points, 25-22. Ochs teamed up with
Maggie Adams for a block assist before Adams connected on a kill.
SEMO then utilized a 6-1 run to increase its second set advantage to 11-6 on the Skyhawks. Malloy had three kills during the span.
Beasley notched rally stoppers to make the lead 16-10 and then 17-11.
A 4-0 SEMO run then brought on set point at 24-15. Adams placed a kill before a pair of block assists from
Talia Gouard. Gouard was strong on the net on consecutive points with Beasley and then Greene. Beasley then knocked a kill during the sequence.
Addison Conley hit a kill before Greene grew the SEMO advantage to 2-0 with a kill.
SEMO hit a match-high .455 during the second set. Malloy had six kills while Beasley and Greene each added five in the stanza.
The Redhawks then secured the 3-0 sweep with a 25-21 final frame.
A 5-0 run for UTM provided the Skyhawks an early 7-5 lead.
Three-straight kills from Greene, Malloy and Ochs brought the lead back in SEMO's favor 9-8.
Ochs then added a pair of rally stoppers to make the score 11-10.
SEMO then went on a 6-1 run to take a 17-12 edge in the set.
The Skyhawks responded with a 5-1 rally to come within a point, 20-19, and prompt a Redhawks timeout.
Beasley would knock a pair of kills to distance the Redhawks from UTM, 21-19, and then 22-20.
Olivia Lucia hit a kill to cut the SEMO edge to 22-21 before the Redhawks wrapped up the match with three straight points.
Blocks finished tied at 8-8. Adams, Gouard and Ochs each had four in the match. Greene poured in three.
Tara Beilsmith led the Redhawks defensively on the back row with 18 digs and three assists.
Kayla Closset chipped in six digs and
Ally Dion had five.
Conley paced the Skyhawks with nine kills and Logan Wallick had eight. Kenzie Hinshaw posted 30 assists and nine digs. Karen Scanlon finished with a team-high 13 digs.
SEMO closes out its two-match series with the Skyhawks Monday afternoon. First service is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Skyhawk Fieldhouse.
