Tremain’s Late Strike Propels Redhawks to 1-0 Win over Morehead State Monday

MOREHEAD, Ky. – Abby Tremain's late goal provided Southeast Missouri women's soccer (6-1-1, 6-1-1 OVC) a 1-0 victory over Morehead State (1-7-0, 1-7-0 OVC) Monday afternoon at Jayne Stadium.
 
With the win, SEMO improved to 6-1-1 in 2020-21 with two regular-season games left.
 
Tremain registered her first career goal as a Redhawk in the 79th minute of regulation off a feed from Lauren Welker.
 
Welker paces the Redhawks in 2020-21 with 10 points after tallying her second assist Monday, playing in 66 minutes of action.
 
Tremain, a junior from Bridgeton, Missouri, competed in 46 minutes Monday against the Eagles, while registering the game-winner.
 
At the half, SEMO led Morehead State 3-2 in shots with three on target.
 
The Eagles concluded the contest with a 14-8 shot differential including eight on goal compared to the Redhawks six.
 
Emma Brune led SEMO with five shots including four on goal. Morgan McCourt also tallied a shot on goal for the Redhawks. Hannah Compernolle finished the game with a shot.
 
Brune, Lexie Hacker and Natalie Jackson all played in the full 90 minutes of regulation Tuesday for the eighth time in 2020-21.
 
Backup goalie Kayla Byrd made her third consecutive start at forward.
 
Mariah Johnson made her second career start on the SEMO backline, playing in 74 minutes.
 
Lexi Grote competed in 87 minutes Monday.
 
Goalkeeper Bailey Redden made eight saves for the victory. Michelle Jerantowski had five saves for Morehead State.
 
Eva Kiper led the Eagles with four shots including three on the mark.
 
SEMO will return to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, after its road trip to the Bluegrass State to face Murray State Friday at Houck Field House. Initial kick is set for 6 p.m., CT for the matchup between two of the top teams in the league.
