CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Rachel Anderson went 4-for-4 with three runs scored, a triple and home run as Southeast Missouri (12-10, 9-1) walked off with a 8-0 win over Morehead State
(6-15, 0-12) in five innings Friday night.
SEMO roughed up MSU for one hour and 20 minutes in its fastest game of the season.
Anderson was outstanding at the plate and in center field en route to matching her career-high in hits. In addition to her offense, she made a diving highlight-reel catch and broke her program's all-time career record in total bases.
SEMO wasted no time going to work against pitcher Lennon Spicer. With two runners on and two outs in the bottom of the first inning,
Ashley Ellis hit a three-run home run to put the Redhawks ahead. The home run was Ellis' sixth of the season and 40th of her career.
Two innings later, the Redhawk tacked on three more runs, including two on a triple by Anderson. The triple gave Anderson her fourth different SEMO career record this season. She broke the school's hits, walks and RBI records earlier in the year.
Ahead, 6-0, SEMO added its final two runs via the long ball.
Austine Pauley homered to left in the fourth inning before Anderson ended the game with her solo shot to left in the bottom of the fifth.
With plenty of run support,
Rachel Rook again dominated inside the circle.
Rook (8-5) retired the first 11 hitters she faced and tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks in five innings. She cruised to her Ohio Valley Conference leading eighth win of the season.
Spicer (4-8) fell to her eighth loss of 2021. She gave up eight runs on 10 hits, walked six and struck out three in four innings.
SEMO notched 10 hits for its fourth double-digit hit effort in five games.
Kynzie Wrigley (2),
Kaylee Anderson (1), Ellis (1),
Karsyn Davis (1) and Pauley (1) accounted for the Redhawks other six hits.
OVC leading SEMO won its eighth-straight conference game and fifth in a row overall. Tonight's win was the Redhawks ninth in 10 contests, as well.
The Redhawks and Eagles conclude their series with a 2 p.m., CT doubleheader Saturday.
