CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (9-2, 9-2 OVC) swept Austin Peay (8-3, 8-3 OVC), 25-18, 25-20, 26-24, Sunday evening at Houck Field House to extend its win streak to nine matches.
The Redhawks have now swept their last four matches. With the win, SEMO also halted Austin Peay's win streak at four.
Laney Malloy led the Redhawks attack with 16 kills and six digs on a .293 hitting clip.
Zoey Beasley added 10 kills (.421) while
Maggie Adams and
Colby Greene each had four.
Setter
Claire Ochs dished out 28 assists as the Redhawks connected at a pace of .269. She also chipped in 14 digs and five kills for her seventh double-double outing of the season.
Ally Dion led the defense with 15 kills, starting at libero with
Tara Beilsmith out of the lineup due to injury.
SEMO opened the match with a .394 first set. The Redhawks jumped out to a 5-2 advantage. Tied at 14-14, Beasley slammed a kill after a Governors service error to make the score 16-14.
Ochs then elected for a kill over an assist before an APSU attack error to widen the margin to 18-15.
SEMO then closed out the set with a 5-0 run to capture the first frame, 25-18. Malloy opened the run with a kill and Adams tallied a pair of winners during the span.
The Redhawks then commenced the second set strong, growing their early advantage to 6-1.
Back-to-back kills from Ochs after a Malloy rally stopper provided SEMO a 14-8 advantage.
Malloy then added two more kills to increase the lead to 16-9. A 5-1 Governors rally then cut the SEMO edge to 19-16.
Aysha Hood hit a kill to make the Redhawks lead 22-19 before a kill from Malloy coupled with an APSU attack error brought on set point, 24-19.
Karli Graham added a kill for the Governors before Greene blasted a kill to take the set 25-20.
SEMO need extra innings to capture the final set. Malloy posted seven of her 16 kills during the set.
Knotted at 12-12, SEMO pulled ahead 15-12 after kills from
Talia Gouard and Beasley combined with a Govs service error.
Beasley teamed up with Gouard for a block assist before burying a kill into the floorboards to make the SEMO lead 18-14.
Malloy then posted a kill to make the scoreboard read 20-15 before Austin Peay went on a 7-0 run to take the lead 22-20.
A bad set from the Governors after a Malloy rally stopper tied the set at 23-23.
Chloe Stitt then connected on a kill to give APSU its final lead of the day, 24-23.
SEMO claimed the match with a block assist from Beasley and Adams, 26-24. Malloy hit a kill before placing an ace to start the sequence that led to SEMO's ninth straight victory.
SEMO notched five aces on the night compared to the Governors two. Malloy and
Kayla Closset each tallied a pair and Ochs had one.
APSU out blocked SEMO 6-5. Gouard finished with four while Beasley and Greene each had two.
Stitt led the Governors with 10 kills while Brooke Moore finished with eight and 11 digs. Graham had six kills. Nina Korfhage posted nine digs. Kelsey Mead passed out 15 assists.
SEMO will close out its two-match set with Austin Peay Monday afternoon at Houck Field House. First serve is slated for 3 p.m., CT.
