Redhawks Fall to SIUE, 3-0, Friday in the 2021 OVC Championship Semifinals

MARTIN, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (7-10-2) saw its Cinderella run in the 2021 Ohio Valley Conference Championship Tournament conclude in the Semifinals Friday evening at the Skyhawk Soccer Field. No. 7-seeded SEMO fell to #2 SIUE, 3-0, after rallying off a pair of victories in Nashville, Tennessee, over #6 Morehead State and #3 Belmont.
 
SIUE will now face top-seeded UT Martin Sunday in the Championship Final in a battle of the 2021 OVC Regular-Season Champions.

Lauren Welker and Bailey Redden were named to the 2021 All-OVC Championship Tournament team at the conclusion of Sunday's Championship Final. 
 
The Cougars outshot the Redhawks, 30-3, including 12-2 in shots on goal.
 
Lydia Harris scored in the seventh minute to provide the Cougars a 1-0 lead heading into the break. Andrea Frerker, the 2021 OVC Midfielder of the Year, was credited with the assist.
 
SIUE outshot SEMO, 17-2, in the opening half including 9-1 in shots on goal.
 
Bailey Redden made six saves in the first 45 minutes Friday and finished with eight.
 
Elizabeth Rater, SEMO's 2021 Second-Team All-OVC Performer and All-Newcomer honoree, registered the lone shot on goal in the first period at 9:27 off a cross by Lauren Welker.
 
Lily Schnieders, a 2021 OVC First Team Selection, converted a penalty kick at 56:06 to make the SIUE lead 2-0.
 
Mackenzie Litzsinger, the 2021 OVC Forward of the Year, then added an insurance goal at 59:20.
 
Lexi Grote notched a shot but Jensen Schoch was there for the save in the 70th minute.
 
The senior from Granite City, Illinois, appeared in her 82nd career game, which ranks second in the Redhawks record books behind Hannah Compernolle (84 games).
 
Welker also notched a shot in the game for the Redhawks. The senior from Jackson, Missouri, along with Grote each tallied 82 minutes on the pitch.
 
Morgan McCourt and Kate Daus each competed in 85 minutes Friday
 
Schoch finished with two saves in the shutout.
 
Emma Brune and Natalie Jackson played in the full 90 minutes for SEMO.
 
Brune and Jackson concluded the 2021 season with 18 and 13 full regulation games, respectively. Brune finished 2021 with 1,736 minutes which ranks sixth in SEMO single-season history.
 
Maria Haro led SIUE with six shots including three on target. Matea Diekema added four with a shot on goal.
 
Frerker and Schnieders finished with three shots (2 SOG) each.
 
SIUE led corner kick opportunities 9-2 and fouls finished tied at 11-11.
 
SEMO wraps up the 2021 season with an overall mark of 7-10-2.
