CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (12-5, 3-2 OVC) downed Belmont (4-11, 2-3 OVC), 25-10, 25-9, 25-6, Saturday afternoon at Houck Field House to secure its first Ohio Valley Conference sweep in 2021.
SEMO limited the Bruins to 25 total points over the three sets, registering a season-high .430 hitting clip.
Laney Malloy led the Redhawks offensively with 15 kills and four digs on an epic .700 hitting percentage.
Colby Greene added 12 kills on a .611 rate while
Zoey Beasley finished with six (.385) and
Talia Gouard had three (.500).
SEMO opened the match with a 12-4 lead in the first set that grew to 21-8.
Gouard added a kill to make the margin 22-9 before the Redhawks closed the set on a 3-0 run (25-10).
Malloy knocked five kills and Greene chipped in four. SEMO hit at a clip of .433 with two errors compared to 15 kills.
Claire Ochs dished 11 assists in each of the first two sets and concluded the match with 28 to complement 11 digs, two kills, two blocks, and two aces.
SEMO commenced the second stanza with a 9-2 advantage that increased to 13-3.
A 5-0 Redhawks run pushed the edge to 21-7. Malloy (2) and Greene each had kills before a
Mackenzie Meehan solo block.
SEMO claimed the frame, 25-9, after four Bruins errors. The Redhawks registered a .391 in the second set with 12 kills and three errors.
SEMO concluded the match with a dominating 25-6 third set behind a match-best percentage of .462.
The Redhawks started the frame with a kill by
Colby Greene followed by an ace from
Tara Beilsmith.
Taylor Floyd knocked a kill to cut the edge to 2-1.
SEMO then went on a 14-0 rally to pull ahead 16-1.
Kills from Malloy and Greene before a block assist by Greene and
Elissa Moylan along with a Beilsmith ace made the scoreboard read 20-3.
The Bruins scored for a final time Saturday with a block assist by Carly Mason and Mary Catherine Ball to bring the score to 22-6.

Beilsmith paced the SEMO defense, scooping up 23 digs with seven assists and two aces. Closset chipped in six with a kill and an ace.
Meehan led the Redhawks with five blocks (four assists and one solo) to go along with a kill and a dig.
Malloy, Greene and Gouard each had three block assists.
Laura Shoopman led Belmont with four kills and seven digs. Izzy Schauer had nine assists as the Bruins hit at rate of -.124. Rachel McBride finished with nine digs.
SEMO led every category on Belmont Saturday including points, 56-17, kills, 42-12, assists, 38-11, and digs, 47-27.
The Redhawks had five aces while the Bruins finished with none and out blocked Belmont, 9-5.
SEMO next hits the road for a three-match stretch. The Redhawks head to Charleston, Illinois, for a weekend series with Eastern Illinois, Oct. 8-9 before completing the home-and-home series with travel partner, UT Martin, Oct. 12 in Martin, Tennessee.
