Redhawks Edge Austin Peay, 1-0, Sunday for First OVC Win in 2021

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.  – Southeast Missouri women's soccer (4-8-0, 1-3-0 OVC) captured its first Ohio Valley Conference victory in 2021 Sunday when SEMO overcame Austin Peay (3-8-2, 0-4-0 OVC), 1-0, at the Morgan Brothers Soccer Field.
 
Hannah Compernolle registered the game-winner at 2:14 in the first half to secure the Redhawks first OVC triumph of the campaign.
 
Compernolle, a fifth-year senior from Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin, made her second career goal as a Redhawk count.
 
Kiana Khedoo started the play in Redhawks territory and drove into the offensive zone. She then found Abby Tremain who crossed it to Compernolle. Compernolle then beat Peyton Powell for her first goal in 2021.
 
Khedoo and Tremain registered the assists on the play. For Tremain, it was her first career helper while Khedoo earned her second-career assist Sunday.
 
Compernolle competed in 43 minutes at Austin Peay in her 77th game at SEMO. She is now tied for fifth in Redhawks program history for games played.
 
Austin Peay outshot the Redhawks, 8-2, in the first half but shots on goal were tied at 2-2.
 
SEMO looked to extend its advantage to 2-0 with a one-on-one opportunity from Zoey Memmel but Powell was there for the save at 37:11.
 
Lauren Welker then kept the Governors off the board with a goal line header clearance in the 43rd minute off an APSU corner.
 
Austin Peay finished the game with a shot differential of 14-6 with shots on goal knotted at 2-2. The Governors continued to pressure in the second half, tallying six shots compared to SEMO's four.
 
Bailey Redden made two saves in the victory for her 17th career solo shutout (fourth in SEMO record books). Powell had a save in the loss for APSU. 
 
Compernolle, Katelyn Miller, Welker, Anne-Clara Couturier, Memmel and Morgan McCourt each had a shot in the game.
 
Rachel Bradberry notched a game-high three shots while Alec Baumgardt, Tori Case, Clare Larose and Olivia Prock each had two. Three Govs field players finished with 90 minutes logged.
 
Emma Brune and Natalie Jackson paced all SEMO field players, competing in the full 90 minutes.
 
For Brune, it was her 23rd career game playing the entire regulation and 11th in 2021.
 
Jackson has now played in the full regulation each of the last six games.
 
Katelyn Miller made her third straight start at forward. Gabby Gscheidmeier compiled her second career start on defense.
 
With the win, SEMO halted its losing streak at three and road losing streak at six.
 
SEMO next hosts Eastern Illinois Thursday at Houck Field. First kick is slated for 6 p.m., CT. The Redhawks then close the week with a trip to Morehead, Kentucky, to face Morehead State Sunday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.
