Southeast Closes Out Non-Conference Play with 4-3 Win Over Kansas City Saturday

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (4-6) wrapped up its non-conference slate with a 4-3 decision over Kansas City (1-7) Saturday afternoon at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
 
Southeast dropped the doubles point for the second straight match before rallying off singles wins at the first through fourth positions. 
 
Vivian Lai and Maja Lundell opened the dual with their first doubles win as a team. The duo bested Thanushree Vale and Rhiannon McBlane, 6-3, at no. 3 doubles. 
 
The Roos then captured wins at the first and second slots to secure the doubles point. Yana Grechkina and Riddhi Sharma beat Romana Tarajova and Kseniya Zonova, 6-4, at the top position before Michela Xibilia and Grace Ball overcame Teona Velkoska and Lera Valeeva, 7-6, at no. 3 doubles. 
 
When the competition switched to singles, Southeast compiled four straight wins to capture the dual victory.
 
Zonova ousted Grechkina by default at the top slot after taking the opening set, 7-5. 
 
Lai then defeated Sharma, 6-1, 6-3, to push the Redhawks advantage to 2-1 at no. 3 singles. 
 
At the fourth slot, Velkoska cruised past Vale, 6-3, 6-2, before Tarajova defeated Xibilia, 6-3, 6-2, at no. 2 singles to claim the SEMO win. 
 
Ball then overcame Valeeva, 6-3, 6-3, and McBlane beat Lundell, 7-5, 6-1, to close out the dual at the fifth and sixth slots, respectively. 
 
Southeast next opens its Ohio Valley Conference slate on Friday, March 13 against UT Martin at 2 p.m. in Martin, Tennessee. The Redhawks then have a double weekend in Nashville, Tennessee, March 20 and 21 before hosting Austin Peay on March 27 at 1 p.m. at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
