MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (2-2) overcame Lipscomb (0-5), 4-3, Saturday afternoon at the Eldon Roark Tennis Center to improve to .500 in 2020.
Kseniya Zonova and
Vivian Lai posted both singles and doubles victories in the dual.
Southeast captured the doubles point for the second straight match with wins at the second and first position to open the contest.
Teona Velkoska and
Vivian Lai earned their first dual win as a team at the second slot. The duo made quick work of Liza Diachenko and Maddox Bandy with a 6-0 sweep. The Bison then posted a 6-1 decision at the third position.
Romana Tarajova and Zonova then secured the point with a 6-4 victory over Kate Popova and Denise Buberl at no. 1 doubles.
When the dual moved to singles, Southeast took a 3-0 advantage after wins from Zonova and Lai at the second and fourth spots, respectively.
Zonova bested Emma Zakordoniec, 6-1, 6-4, before Lai overcame Anja Trbeznik, 6-2, 6-3.
Buberl then defeated
Lera Valeeva, 6-1, 7-6, to put Lipscomb on the board at the match, 1-3.
Popova then beat Tarajova at the top slot, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Barriga gave the Redhawks their second win in 2020 with a 6-4, 6-1 decision over Eleanor Chapman at the sixth lineup spot.
Teona Velkoska then fell to Diachenko, 6-4, 5-7, 10-6, at no. 5 singles to conclude the tilt.
Southeast next faces Memphis of the American Athletic Conference Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Eldon Roark Tennis Center.
