Redhawks Fall to Belmont, 57-45

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.– Southeast Missouri (9-5, 1-2 OVC) dropped a 57-45 decision to Belmont (8-6, 3-0 OVC) Thursday night at the Show Me Center.

Belmont outscored SEMO, 15-4, in the fourth quarter as the Redhawks went scoreless for the final 5:26 and that was the difference.

The Redhawks were held to a season-low 45-points as both teams struggled offensively. SEMO shot only 28.4 percent (19-of-67) for the night, while Belmont shot 34.5% (20-of-58).

Individually, Tesia Thompson led the Redhawks with 24-points and eight rebounds for her 10th double-digit point game of the season.

SEMO and Belmont exchanged leads 11 times and battled to ties on nine different occasions.

The Redhawks outscored the Bruins 14-13 in the second quarter and led for over 12 minutes in the first half. SEMO, however, trailed 28-26 at the half.

Neither team had led by more than five until Belmont pulled away at the end.

The Redhawks momentum sputtered when Roshala Scott was called for an intentional foul with 5:25 remaining in the game. The Bruins were able to go on a 9-0 run after that to finish off the SEMO.

Thompson shot 10-of-22 from the field and 4-of-4 at the free throw line in 28 minutes.

Carrie Shephard also posted double-digits with 11 points.

Ellie Harmeyer recorded her fourth-consecutive double-double for Belmont. The Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Player of the Year scored 27 points and had 15 rebounds. Harmeyer went 10-ofr-12 from the charity stripe.
