Southeast Cross Country Travels to Mizzou for the Gans Creek Classic Friday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri cross country will stay in state for the Gans Creek Classic Friday hosted by Mizzou at the new, state-of-the-art Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, Missouri.
The women will run a 6K at 5 p.m. followed by the men's 8K race at 5:30 p.m.
The Gans Creek Classic will be the first meet at the new facility and the City of Columbia will host a dedication ceremony prior to the races at 4:15 p.m. The course has been selected as the host site for the 2021 Southeastern Conference Championships and will serve as the location for the Missouri State High School Activities Association Cross Country Championships beginning this fall.
The Classic features collegiate teams from across the country including Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Drake, Illinois State, North Florida, Saint Louis, Southern Illinois, UMKC, Alabama-Birmingham and meet host Missouri.
Southeast enters the meet after competing at the Bradley Intercollegiate last Friday at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Illinois.
Carli Knott was named the Ohio Valley Conference Female Co-Runner of the Week after she finished second out of 213 competitors in the women's three mile race. Knott posted a personal-best mark of 17:26.5 as the Redhawks women placed second as a team with 73 points.
The OVC weekly honor marked the first career weekly accolade for Knott and first for SEMO women's cross country since Megan Parks was awarded the laurel on Sept. 13, 2016.
Knott, a 2018 All-OVC performer, heads into the third meet of 2019 with two top-five finishes this season, as she placed third in the opening week's Saluki Invite on Aug. 30.
Maddie Keller finished right behind Knott for the second straight meet with a time of 17:28.8 for third at the Bradley Intercollegiate. Keller completed the Saluki Invite fourth overall in 18:48.28 during the opening week of the season.
Hannah Eastman (18:14.6, 16th), Katie Wegmann (18:35.5, 27th) and Danielle Mohrmann (18:51.0, PR, 34th) rounded out the SEMO scorers at the Intercollegiate.
Chris Durr paced the Redhawks men, crossing the finish line for the 8K in 26:53.2 for 23rd. The men totaled 179 points for sixth out of 19 teams at the meet.
Caleb Cornelius of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, was the second fastest SEMO male finisher, clocking in at 27:18.3 (38th).
Terrico Garrett (27:52.2, 52nd), Aaron Modrow (28:00.6, 57th) and Austin Perkins (29:08.7, 85th) completed the Redhawks top five runners.
Southeast next returns to Peoria, Illinois, for the 2019 Bradley Pink Classic Friday, Oct. 18 at the Newman Golf Course. The women will run 6K, while the men will compete in an 8K.
