Fischer and Canada Finish Fourth at 2019 FISU Summer Universiade

NAPLES, Italy – Southeast Missouri junior Alana Fischer and Team Canada earned fourth in the women's artistic gymnastics team event at the 2019 FISU (International University Sports Federation) Summer Universiade held July 5 at PalaVesuvio Hall.

Fischer along with her teammates Denelle Pedrick and Jessica Dowling totaled a team score of 97.700 for fourth in the seven-team competition. Japan won with 108.450. Russia grabbed silver with 107.450 and Italy rounded out the podium with 103.500.

"It was such an honor being able to compete for Canada," Fischer said. "This has been a dream of mine since I was little and to have actually been able to be apart of these games was something very special. The atmosphere of it all was something that I will never forget. Everything was so new to me and I was just trying to embrace every moment of it. As a team, we knew going into the meet that it would be difficult to place first but we all went in with a positive mindset and did the best we could."

Fischer, who hails from Georgetown, Ontario, Canada, competed as an all-arounder in her first career International competition at the 2019 FISU Summer Universiade.
