Anderson Nearly Hits for the Cycle as Redhawks Split with Jacksonville State

JACKSONVILLE, Ala.  – Rachel Anderson narrowly missed hitting for the cycle to rally Southeast Missouri (38-15, 15-5) to a doubleheader split with Ohio Valley Conference leader Jacksonville State (33-13, 17-5) Sunday. The Redhawks dropped game one, 1-0, and won the nightcap, 3-1.

Anderson went 3-for-3 with a double, home run, run scored and two RBI in game two.

She delivered a two-out single to right field to score Sarah Messex for the game's first run in the top of the second inning.

SEMO added another run in the top of the third when Madison Harris ripped a pinch-hit triple and Mackenzie Long touched home to put the Redhawks ahead, 2-0.

Anderson then put the exclamation point on SEMO's win when led off the seventh inning with a home run to right center. For Anderson, it was her 11thround-tripper of the season.

Haley Thogmartin (17-6) claimed the win. Thogmartin struck out two and allowed one run on four hits in five innings. Kaylee Anderson tossed two scoreless innings to get her second save.

Reagan Watkins (2-1) took the loss. Watkins gave up two runs on two hits, struck out two and walked three in 2.2 relief innings.

The Redhawks defeated the Gamecocks in Jacksonville for only the second time. It was SEMO's first victory on JSU's home field in eight years (7-6, Mar. 27, 2011).

Faith Sims pitched a complete game no-hitter to lead JSU to its tight game one victory.

Sims (20-4) faced 22 hitters, one over the minimum. She also extended her streak to 17-straight innings where she has not allowed a hit or a run.

Hannahstaysia Weaver reached on an infield single and scored the game's only run on an ensuing two-out double by Karsen Mosley in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Sims then forced Ashley Ellis to ground into a double play ending the game in the seventh.

There were only three hits in the game and Mosley accounted for two of them.

Rachel Rook was outstanding for SEMO tossing four scoreless one-hit innings with three strikeouts and no walks. Rook gave way to Kaylee Anderson in the fifth.

K. Anderson was charged with one run on two hits and struck out three in two innings. She is now 5-3 this season.

SEMO was no-hit for the first time in 2019.

The Redhawks are in position to earn a share of the Ohio Valley Conference regular season title if they sweep Morehead State May 4.

SEMO heads to Saint Louis for a midweek contest on May 1 before closing out its regular season against the Eagles at home.
