Redhawks Finish Regular Season with 6-1 Victory over EIU on Senior Day Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (11-9, 4-4 OVC) concluded its 2019 regular season with a 6-1 win over Eastern Illinois (11-10, 2-5 OVC) Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at the Redhawks Tennis Complex. 
 
Southeast will now await the rest of this weekend's results to find out its seed in the 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championship April 26-28 at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee.
 
The Redhawks earned the doubles point with victories at the second and third positions to open the dual match. 
 
Kseniya Zonova and Sneha Sinha beat Shelby Anderson and Claire Martin, 6-1, to improve to 9-5 in 2019 (3-0 at no. 2). Manuela Barriga and Romana Tarajova then overcame Karla Contreras and Abby Carpenter, 6-3. The third doubles team of Barriga and Tarajova is now 9-4 at the position.
 
Isabella Krupa and Teona Velkoska dropped a 6-4 decision to Rachel Papavasilopoulos and Srishti Slaria at no. 1 doubles prior to Southeast's second and third doubles wins. 
 
Barriga then extended the Redhawks advantage to 2-0 when the competition moved to singles. She cruised past Anderson, 6-1, 6-0, for her fifth straight victory (5-2 at no. 6 singles). 
 
Krupa defeated Martin, 6-3, 6-2, at the third slot. 
 
Sinha then fought past Contreras, 6-3, 6-3, at no. 5 singles and is now 11-6 in dual matches this season. 
 
Zonova outlasted Slaria at the second position, 7-5, 6-3, for her fourth consecutive victory and team-best 13th singles win (13-6). 
 
Velkoska then triumphed over Carpenter, 6-4, 6-2, at the fourth spot for her 10th win of the campaign.
 
Papavasilopoulos outlasted Tarajova, 1-6, 7-6, 6-3, at no. 1 singles to finished the dual match. 
 
Seniors Anais Emelie and Isabella Krupa were recognized for their Redhawks careers at the conclusion of the match. 
 
Southeast will next compete at the 2019 OVC Women's Tennis Championship held April 26-28 at the Centennial Sportsplex Tennis Center in Nashville, Tennessee. SEMO will see how the rest of this weekend's conference tennis matches play out for its seed at the Championship.
