Redhawks End Season with 84-66 Loss to OVC Champion Belmont

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.– Senior Mark Laros was Southeast Missouri's only player to reach double figures with 12 points as the Redhawks dropped their season-finale to Ohio Valley Conference champion Belmont (25-4, 16-2) Saturday night at the Show Me Center.

SEMO, which wrapped up its season with an overall record of 10-21 and 5-13 in OVC play, never led in the game.

Laros, one of three seniors honored prior to tipoff, shot 6-of-11 from the field to lead the Redhawks.

BU opened the game with a 10-3 run in the first 3:09. SEMO countered by scoring 10 of the next 13 points to tie the game. Nygal Russell scored four points to key the surge that ended on a Laros jumper to bring the game to a 13-13 deadlock with 13:04 remaining in the first half.

The Bruins stretched their lead to double figures (25-15) following a 12-2 jaunt and didn't let their lead fall below double figures for the rest of the contest.

BU led at halftime, 45-28, and built its largest lead of the game at 23 (84-61) on Dylan Windler's two free throws with 1:28 left to play.

The Bruins shot 50 percent (30-of-60) from the field and posted a 54.2 percent (13-of-24) in the second half.

Kevin McClain led all scorers with 27 points, while Windler followed with a double-double 22 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Muszynski added 10 points and Grayson Murphy finished with 10 assists.

Gabe McGlothan nearly reached a double-double with nine points and nine boards and Russell did the same with nine points and eight rebounds.

SEMO shot 43.6 percent (24-of-55) from the field and buried eight 3-pointers. The Redhawks edged BU on the glass, 34-33, as well.
