CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -Southeast Missouri (11-11, 6-5)) went on a 12-0 run in the final moments of the game to seal a 62-53 victory over Tennessee Tech (16-6, 8-3)) Thursday night at the Show Me Center.
Tesia Thompson recorded her 13th double-digit game of the year with 10 points in only 11 minutes of play.
Jocelyn Taylor recorded three-straight points in the paint to put SEMO up by seven. This was part of the Redhawks big run down the stretch. Taylor's strong play underneath helped SEMO notch 24 points in the paint.
Tionne Colyer got the nod to start for the third time as a true freshman and tallied a career-best nine rebounds.
SEMO built its largest lead of the night when
Taelour Pruitt made three free throws to put the Redhawks ahead, 61-47, with 39 seconds remaining.
The Redhawks shot 71,.4 percent (20-of-28) at the free throw line a with Thompson going a perfect 4-of-4 and Pruitt shooting 7-of-10.
Carrie Shephard also pitched in 11 points and drained three 3-pointers. Shephard now had 55 three-pointers this season and is just one shy of cracking the school's all-time single-season leaders in that category.
TTU went 21-of-23 (.913) from the charity stripe for a season-high, but was held to a season-low 26.9 (14-of-52) percent from the field against a smothering SEMO defense. Mackenzie Coleman was the only Golden Eagle to score double figures with 14 points.
SEMO outscored the Golden Eagles, 35-24, of the bench with 21 of those points coming in the final quarter of play. Taylor (13) points and Pruitt (9) account for 22 of those points.
The Redhawks return to action when they host Jacksonville State Saturday.
