SEMO found itself in big hole early when UTM went on a 24-2 run in the first eight minutes of the game. The Skyhawks heated up to make seven of their first eight field goals and drained their first four 3-pointers of the contest.
Meanwhile, the Redhawks shot just 12.5 percent on 1-of-8 from the field, missed their first five attempts from behind the arc and had five turnovers during that stretch.
UTM, which shot 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the floor and 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from downtown in the opening stanza, led 43-21 at the half.
SEMO battled back in the second half and pieced together a 16-0 run in just 3:17 to pull within single digits.
Oscar Kao banked in a left-handed shot off the glass to narrow UTM's lead to 68-60 with 3:48 remaining.
Skyler Hogan also scored five-straight points a little before Kao's bucket.
The Redhawks closed UTM's lead to eight once more on a 3-pointer by
Isaiah Gable, but that was as close as they would get.
SEMO shot much better in the second half hitting 55.6 percent (20-of-36) of its field goals. The Redhawks outscored the Skyhawks, 51-38, in the game's final 20 minutes.
Ledarrius Brewer joined McGlothan with double figures in the scoring column. Brewer finished with 10 points and four assists.
McGlothan topped SEMO with six rebounds.
Preston Parks poured in a game-high 26 points, Delfincko Bogan added 17 and Craig Randall II pitched in 16 to lead UTM. The Skyhawks shot 61.2 percent (30-of-49) for the night, the highest shooting percentage an opponent recorded against the Redhawks this year.
