SANTA CLARA, Calif. –
Alex Caldwell was named to the Cable Car Classic All-Tournament Team after Southeast Missouri (3-4) defeated Denver (3-5), 66-51, Saturday.
The Redhawks finished the tournament with a 1-2 mark, but ended a two-game losing streak with their victory today.
Caldwell scored a total of 43 points and did not miss a free throw (10-of-10) in three games at the Cable Car Classic.
It was a slow offensive start for both the Redhawks and the Pioneers as SEMO held a 10-9 edge with 10:50 remaining in the first half.
SEMO, however, led for the majority of the game and Caldwell scored with seven minutes left to give the Redhawks and 18-17 lead and start a 7-0 SEMO run.
Oscar Kao drained a 3-pointer with two minutes left in the first half to put the Redhawks ahead, 29-20, at halftime.
Skylar Hogan went 4-for-4 (1.000) from the field in the first half and finished at 7-of-8 from the field on the day. Hogan had a season-high 16 points against the Pioneers.
The Redhawks used a 6-0 run increase their lead to 35-20 and never looked back.
SEMO then led by as many as 17 points multiple times throughout the second half. The first time the Redhawks took over by that margin was when
Quatarrius Wilson scored a layup in the paint with 17:40 remaining.
The Pioneers cut SEMO's lead to under double figures when Jase Townsend scored four points on back-to-back jumpers in the paint to make it a 55-47 game, but that was as close as they would get.
Wilson recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds against Denver. Caldwell and Hogan each dropped in 16 points and SEMO shot 62.5 percent (15-of-24) from the field in the second half and a season-high 54 percent (27-of-50) for the game.
SEMO remains on the road to face Abilene Christian (Dec. 5) and Drake (Dec. 7).
