CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Ohio Valley Conference leader Southeast Missouri (10-4-1, 7-1-1) recorded its 10th win of the season with a dominating 2-0 victory over Jacksonville State (4-13, 1-8) on a chilly fall night at Houck Field Friday.
SEMO remained unbeaten in October and improved to 6-0 at home. The Redhawks now stand just one win away from claiming this year's OVC title.
The Redhawks scored both of their goals in the first 17 minutes of action, moving to a 7-0 record when leading at halftime.
Hailey Block put SEMO on the board scoring her seventh goal of the season off a pass from Jordan Nelson. Nelson passed the ball from the left side and Block found the net from inside the box with 15:25 on the clock. This was Block's fifth-consecutive game with a goal.
A quick 1:33 later, Jennifer Brien scored off an assist by block to widen SEMO's lead to 2-0 with just under 17 minutes (16:58) in.
JSU didn't have a shot in the first half and was held to only one for the game. SEMO held a commanding 23-1 advantage in shots and +12 (13-1) margin in shots on goal.
Katie Lever paved the way with a game-high five shots. Lexi Grote followed with four, while Block and Natalie Jackson added three apiece.
Bailey Redden recorded her fourth shutout of the season in goal.
SEMO reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2014. The 2014 season was the last time the Redhawks won an OVC regular season as they were named co-champions with Murray State.
With a win over Tennessee Tech Sunday, SEMO will clinch the top seed in this year's OVC Soccer Tournament. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., CT. The Redhawks will honor their seniors prior to the game.
