Southeast Set to Compete in Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri cross country heads to Louisville, Kentucky, for the Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic held at the E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park Saturday morning.
The men will run in the Gold 8K race at 9:30 a.m. and the women will hit the course at 10:15 a.m. for the Gold 5K race.
The Louisville Sports Commission Cross Country Classic features 91 teams including fellow Ohio Valley Conference schools Austin Peay, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Murray State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin.
The meet marks the third contest for both the men's and women's squads in 2018 after competing at the five-team Saluki Invitational in Carbondale, Illinois, on Aug. 31 and the SIUE John Flamer Invite dual meet in Edwardsville, Illinois, on Sept. 14.
The Redhawk women have secured team titles at both meets and Sydney O'Brien has topped the leaderboard at both the Saluki Invitational and the SIUE John Flamer Invite. Kaitlyn Shea who earned All-OVC Second Team honors in 2017 has finished second at both meets.
Rachel Hutchcraft, Carli Knott, Adrienne Brauer, Anna Thomas and Natalie Kopplin have rounded out the top five for the women through two meets on a team that features a lot of depth that also includes Jane Boessen, Danielle Mohrmann and Maddie Keller.
Southeast's men have place second in both of its meets in the 2018 campaign. Dan Plunkett has registered the top Redhawk finish at both meets with third and sixth place marks. Behind Plunkett, James Kosbar, Chris Durr, Charlie Samarzich, Trevor Falco and Curtis Reed have all scored for SEMO this season. The team also has returners in Griffin Bailey and Nicholas Yaeger.
After the Greater Louisville Classic, the Redhawks will take a week off before competing at the Ideal Rentals Bradley Pink Classic (men) on Friday, Oct. 12 in Peoria, Illinois, and the 2018 Wisconsin Pre-National Meet (women) on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Madison, Wisconsin.
