CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri (2-7-1, 0-3-1) had its first double-overtime game of the season result in a 1-1 draw with Eastern Kentucky (4-5-2, 0-1-2) Thursday night at Houck Field.
The tie is the first for SEMO this season.
SEMO had 13 shots for the game, including seven on goal. EKU finished with 17 shots, 10 of which were on goal. During the two overtime periods, the Redhawks were outshot, 5-3.
Esmie Gonzales posted five shots to lead SEMO.
Bailey Redden started in goal for the third consecutive game. The freshman from Belleville, Illinois had nine saves with a couple game changing plays in the extra periods.
Gonzales scored the Redhawks only goal at the 32nd minute off a pass from
Katie Lever. Gonzales got the ball at the top of the box and drove it into the left side of the net for her team-high fourth goal of the season.
EKU rallied to tie things up with less than a minute left in regulation off of headed ball to the opposite corner.
SEMO returns to action when it hosts Morehead State Sunday. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m., CT.
