
Redhawks Women Capture SIUE John Flamer Invite as O’Brien Wins Her Second Straight Race Friday

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Sydney O'Brien won her second straight race in 2018 as Southeast Missouri women's cross country captured its second victory of the season with 17 points Friday evening at the SIUE John Flamer Invite held at the SIUE Cross Country Course. Southeast's men finished second with 31 points.
O'Brien led the Redhawks with a first place finish clocked at 18:05.4. Kaitlyn Shea was second overall with a time of 18:18.7 and Rachel Hutchcraft rounded out the top three with a mark of 18:33.9.
Anna Thomas was fifth overall, finishing in 19:22.0 and Natalie Kopplin was the fifth fastest Redhawk to finish the 5K with a time of 19:31.8 (6th overall).
Dan Plunkett led SEMO's men with a third place finish in the 8K of 26:57.6. James Kosbar was second for SEMO, recording a time of 27:09.3 (5th overall) and Chris Durr clocked in after at 27:36.1 (sixth overall). Charlie Samarzich (8th, 28:18.9) and Trevor Falco (9th, 29:01.2) completed the top five for Southeast.
SIUE's women finished second with 43 total points while its men's side took first at the meet with 25 points. Ben Scamihorn led the Cougars with a time of 26:15.7 for first in the 8K race.
Southeast continues its 2018 cross country season on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Kentucky.
