EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (4-0) extended its unbeaten set streak to 12 sets Tuesday night at the Meeks Family Fieldhouse with a 3-0 victory over Evansville (3-1), 25-19, 25-22, 25-18.

Southeast is 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 1986 when the team posted an overall record of 37-9.

Mikayla Kuhlmann led the Redhawks with a team high 11 kills on a .348 hitting clip as the Redhawks picked up their first Tuesday night win of 2018.

SEMO opened the match with an early 3-1 lead in the first set before Evansville pulled ahead 13-11 on a Rachel Tam kill. A Purple Aces attack error plus a
Haley Bilbruck service ace then knotted the set at 13-13.
Madara Bajare slammed a kill to bring SEMO's edge to 16-15 before the Redhawks mounted a 6-0 run with a kill from
Maggie Adams and two aces from
Claire Ochs.

Tam cut Southeast's lead to five, 24-19, with a kill before a Purple Aces service error ended the set.

In the middle set Tuesday, Ochs and Adams combined for a block to bring the score line 10-6 before three unanswered points by Evansville. Tied at 12-12, Bilbruck landed a kill followed by two Purple Aces attack errors to bring the score back in favor of SEMO, 15-12. Kuhlmann added a winner and Bilbruck positioned her career best second service ace of the match as SEMO grew its lead to 17-13.

Evansville then evened the set, 20-20, with a kill by Kerra Cornist before three straight points by SEMO. Kuhlmann and Adams then each tallied a kill as Southeast took the second set, 25-22.

In the final set, the Redhawks jumped to a 10-5 lead with a service ace from
Ally Dion.
Kendall Washington then smashed a kill in her Southeast debut to spark a 4-0 run and bring SEMO's lead to 16-9. Washington finished the evening with two kills, two blocks and a dig.

Krista Berns extended the Redhawks lead to 17-10 with a kill as the Purple Aces would come as close as four points. Southeast then sealed the match, 25-18, with kills from Ochs and Kuhlmann bookending a Berns ace.

SEMO out blocked Evansville 12-5 as Adams tallied a career best nine blocks (one solo, eight assists). Bilbruck chipped in four and Berns added three.

Offensively, Bajare was second on the team with six kills.
Â
Ochs led the team with 24 assists and added five kills, two aces and six digs.
Defensively,
Laney Malloy led the Redhawks with 11 digs.

Tam led the Purple Aces with 14 kills.

Julie Yankus has now totaled 95 career wins in eight seasons at Southeast.

Southeast hosts the Redhawks Invitational for the team's home opener Friday to Saturday at Houck Field House and Saxony Lutheran High School (Saturday) in Jackson, Missouri. SEMO welcomes Louisiana Monroe, Radford and Northwestern State to Cape Girardeau for the two-day tournament. The Redhawks face Louisiana Monroe in their first tournament match on Friday, Aug. 31 at 12:30 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. contest against Radford. Southeast takes on Northwestern State at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1 to finish the tournament.
