Redhawks Beat Saint Louis, 4-2

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Chase Urhahn went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and one RBI, and the Redhawks bullpen tossed five scoreless innings to lift Southeast Missouri (12-17) to a 4-2 win over Saint Louis (18-9) Wednesday.

SEMO and SLU played in a game that was added after the Redhawks initial midweek contest against Arkansas State was cancelled.

The Billikens entered the game hot after winning 17 of their previous 18 matchups.

SEMO jumped on SLU starter Charlie Sheehan early with Urhahn reaching on a leadoff single. Moments after Peyton Faulkner flied out, Trevor Ezell ripped a triple to left center and Urhahn scored. Ezell touched home on an ensuing sacrifice fly by Tristen Gagan to get the Redhawks a 2-0 lead.

The Redhawks began the bottom of the second inning with a hit, this time a single by Alex Canty. Urhahn later delivered a one-out double top score Connor Basler to make it 3-0. Basler previously reached on a fielder's choice and scored all the way from first base.

SLU pulled within a run in the top of the fourth when Alex King drew a leadoff walk and went to third on a single by Jake Garella. On the next play, King scored on a sacrifice fly by Carter Hanford. Nick Reeser then drove in Garella on a two-out double to trim SEMO's lead to 3-2.

The Redhawks tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth inning to finish off the Billikens. Wade Stauss singled and scored on a base hit by Basler.

Nathan Bock (1-0) picked up his first career win. Bock allowed two hits, struck out one and walked two in three scoreless innings.

Daniel Bergtholdt retired SLU in order in the ninth to secure his first save of the season.

Sheehan (1-1) suffered the loss. He struck out one and allowed two runs on three hits in just one inning.

Urhahn had three hits in a game for the fourth time this year as SEMO outhit SLU, 8-7.

Ezell (16 games), Basler (12 games) and Dirden (11 games) all kept their reached base streaks intact.

SEMO returns to Ohio Valley Conference action when it hosts Eastern Illinois in a three-game series, beginning Friday at 6 p.m., CT. Friday's game features a free tailgate.
