Gabe McGlothan Completes 2018-19 Signing Class

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo.–Southeast Missouri completed its 2018-19 signing class with the addition of power forward Gabe McGlothan Tuesday.

A native of Gilbert, Arizona, McGlothan joins the Redhawks from Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. He played in 42 games and scored double figures eight times for Putnam Science Academy, this year's National Prep Champion.

"Gabe is exactly what we are looking for to fulfill our needs in the front court," said SEMO head coach Rick Ray. "First and foremost, Gabe is a winner. He led his high school team to the largest class state championship and was on the Putnam Science post graduate team that won this season's National Prep title. Gabe is a powerful athlete that possesses the body and strength that should give him a chance to contribute right away. We look forward to Gabe helping us in our endeavors to continue to better our program."

Putnam Science Academy head coach Tom Espinosa added, "Gabe is a smart kid with a high basketball IQ. He is extremely athletic and played a huge role for us both on and off the court. Gabe has a great attitude and is a team player. Southeast Missouri is getting a great player."

Prior to attending Putnam Science Academy, McGlothan played three varsity seasons at Basha High School in Chandler, Arizona. The 6'7", 225, power forward averaged 14.2 points and 9.4 rebounds per game while helping lead the Bears to a 6A State Championship in 2016-17. He was the large class (6A) Player of the Year as Basha went 31-1 that season. McGlothan also averaged 11.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest as a junior.

"Gabe is a winner. He is a great competitor and an elite rebounder," said Basha High School coach Mike Grothaus. "Gabe has a high motor and doesn't quit, and is a nightmare matchup for a lot of people."

McGlothan joins power forward Sage Tolbert (Richmond, Texas/Combine Academy Charlotte) and guard Alex Caldwell (Columbia, S.C./Wilson H.S.) in the Redhawks 2018-19 class.

"Special kudos to my staff for continuing to go out and find the type of talent and quality young men we want in our program," commented Ray. "In the past two seasons, we have recruited the Freshman of the Year, Denzel Mahoney and OVC All-Newcomer member, Ledarrius Brewer. That is all due to the diligent recruiting efforts of my staff."
