Redhawks Drop Series After 11 Inning Battle

OXFORD, ALA.- Southeast Missouri (15-20, 10-7) drops the series to Jacksonville State (18-13, 8-6) Friday (Apr. 13) in the doubleheader. The Redhawks dropped the second game after a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eleventh inning. 
 
In the first game, the Redhawks were shutout 0-7 on only three hits. Two Redhawks were hit by a pitch in the game. Justin Dirden was hit in the top of the seventh and Tristen Gagan in the ninth.  
 
In the bottom of the seventh, JSU exploded and scored five runs. The Gamecocks recorded two doubles that added two RBI to the board. The final run of the inning was scored on a wild pitch. Jacksonville State out-hit Southeast 9-3 in game one.
 
Christian Vick got the lost in game one after going three innings with six hits and four strikeouts. 
 
Chase Urhahn had a lead-off hit in both games of the day. In game one, he doubled and in the second he singled. Urhahn ended the day with a total of three hits on ten at bats.  
 
Danny Wright racked up three hits in the second game to finish with four on the day. Wright singled in the second game to tie the game 1-1 in the top of the second. He started game two with three back-to-back singles. 
 
Justin Dirden recorded a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Tristen Gagan scored after a single in the at-bat before. SEMO took the lead for the first time of the day.
 
SEMO tied the game 6-6 in the seventh inning before going hit-less the remainder of the game. 
 
The ninth through eleventh inning was difficult for the Redhawks as they had seven straight strikeouts. Chase Urhahn broke up the cycle with a fly ball to center, but Jacksonville State's pitcher Christian Edwards still finished the day with eight strikeouts on ten batters. 
 
In game two, the Redhawks had 13 hits and were struck out 13 times with zero errors. SEMO outhit the Gamecocks 13-12 in this game as well.  
 
Dan Bergtholdt got the loss after going 3.2 innings and only allowing one hit. Logan Spalt got the start and went four innings with five strikeouts on 21 batters. Southeast pitching staff threw 180 total pitches with 112 being strikes. 
 
Southeast will look to avoid the sweep and the weather tomorrow (Apr. 14) at 1 p.m. at Choccolocco Park in Oxford, Ala. After the series, SEMO will return to Capaha for a midweek match up Tuesday (Apr. 17) against Saint Louis before hosting Murray State in an OVC weekend series.
