CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Oleksandra Doroshenko notched both singles and doubles wins for Southeast Missouri women's tennis (3-7, 0-1 OVC), but the Redhawks fell to Eastern Kentucky (7-8, 1-0 OVC), 6-1, in both their home opener and Ohio Valley Conference opener Sunday at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
 
Doroshenko extended her singles win streak to four matches when she fought past Laura Argente, 7-5, 7-5, at the top position. She also teamed up with Kseniya Zonova at the top doubles spot to earn a 6-3 victory over Alexandra Belle and Lisa Friess.
 
Doroshenko and Zonova have now won back-to-back doubles matches at the no. 1 position.
 
The Colonels then took the doubles point after they won two straight matches at the second and third slots. Kristina Lagoda and Viktorija Demcenkova beat Alessandra Maya Thompson and Maja Lundell (SEMO) 6-4 and then Raquel Montalvo and Laura Argente outlasted Anais Emelie and Kelly Sicha, 7-5.
 
Eastern Kentucky who was picked to finish first in the OVC this season then won all but one of its singles matches in the second half of the dual meet.
 
The top three singles matches were highly competitive as Maya Thompson dropped a, 7-6, 6-3, decision to Demcenkova at no. 3 singles. Doroshenko then won at the top spot, 7-5, 7-5, before Zonova lost back-to-back tiebreaks, 7-6 (0), 7-6 (4), in her second singles match with Lagoda.
 
The Redhawks continue their OVC schedule this upcoming weekend in Nashville, Tennessee. Southeast faces Tennessee State on Friday at 2 p.m., CT and then takes on Belmont Saturday at 10 a.m.
