Southeast Tennis Concludes Non-Conference Play with Duals on Monday and Tuesday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis (3-5, 0-0 OVC) wraps up their non-conference schedule with a pair of dual meets on Monday and Tuesday. The Redhawks host Maryville tomorrow in their home opener at the Redhawks Tennis Complex at 2 p.m., CT then travel to Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis, Missouri, on Tuesday for a meeting with Western Illinois at 12:30 p.m.

"Our team is excited for these last two matches before conference play," head coach Mary Beth Gunn said. "We have been working hard and are focused on getting better every day."

Southeast was last in competition the week of Feb. 19 with a pair of duals. The Redhawks recorded its first dual meet victory against Saint Louis in over 17 years, 4-3, on Feb. 21. SEMO then fell to Arkansas State, 4-3, on Feb. 24 but captured three singles victories.

The freshmen trio of Maja Lundell, Alessandra Maya Thompson and Kelly Sicha all recorded singles wins on Feb. 21 against SLU to propel Southeast past the Billikens. For Lundell, the victory was her first-career dual win as a Redhawk.

Oleksandra Doroshenko leads Southeast with a 4-4 singles record in 2018 at duals. She is currently on a two-match winning streak after wins at Saint Louis and Arkansas State.

Anais Emelie also snapped a four-match losing streak with a 6-3, 7-5 decision over Berta Masdevall of Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Arkansas, on Feb. 24. Kseniya Zonova was also victorious against the Red Wolves when she cruised past Anita Detlava, 6-1, 6-4.

Maryville enters Monday's meet with a 6-2 (3-1 in duals in 2018) record. The Saints most recently fell to Western Illinois, 6-3, on March 9.

The Saints last visited Cape in the fall when Southeast hosted the Redhawks Invitational on Oct. 8, 2017. SEMO won three singles matches and took three doubles matches over Maryville at the tournament.

Western Illinois comes into Tuesday's dual with a 5-5 record in 2018. The Leathernecks dropped Maryville, 6-3, on March 9 to extend their win streak to three meets. That streak started with a 5-2 win over SIUE of the Ohio Valley Conference.

Southeast opens OVC conference play on Sunday, March 18 against Eastern Kentucky at 11 a.m. at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
