O'Fallon, Ill. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis recorded its first dual meet victory against Saint Louis in over 17 years, 4-3, Wednesday afternoon at St Clair Tennis Club.
 
"This is a big win for our program and a great confidence boost for our team," head coach Mary Beth Gunn said of the midweek dual. "It was a great team effort today and the freshman really shined today with all three winning their singles, showing how much they have been improving. Doroshenko also played some tough tennis today to help propel us to victory."
 
The Redhawks bested their in-state rival with four singles wins and are now 3-13 all-time against the Billikens.
 
Southeast started the meet with two doubles losses as Saint Louis took the doubles point. Anais Emelie and Maja Lundell fell to Ariana Rodriguez and Alba Salinas in the third doubles spot, 6-1, and Kseniya Zonova and Kelly Sicha dropped a 6-1 decision to Cassie McKenzie/Ally McKenzie.
 
Oleksandra Doroshenko and Alessandra Maya Thompson led Alana Bourgeois and Mariluz Rojo, 4-3, in their unfinished no. 2 doubles match.
 
On the singles side, Maya Thompson beat Bourgeois, 6-4, 6-0, to even the dual at 1-1.
Maja Lundell then knotted the meet at 2-2 when she outlasted Carla Folch, 7-5, 6-3, at no. 6 singles. The win was Lundell's first career dual victory as a Redhawk.
 
Doroshenko gave SEMO a 3-2 edge when she won her top singles match over Cassie McKenzie, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
 
Sicha propelled Southeast past SLU in the dual, 4-3, when she earned the fourth singles win for the Redhawks. In the fifth singles position, Sicha fought past Salinas, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
 
The Redhawk now travel to State University, Arkansas, for a Sunday meet against Arkansas State at 1 p.m., CT.
