Redhawks Finish Conference Play with .500 Mark Saturday Ahead of OVC Championship

#6 Southeast Will Face #3 Morehead State Thursday in First Round

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Southeast Missouri women's volleyball (16-13, 8-8) concluded its Ohio Valley Conference slate with a .500 mark (8-8) after a 0-3 (15-25, 16-25, 21-25) loss at Jacksonville State (17-13, 9-7) Saturday at Kennamer Gym.

SEMO will head to its 25th OVC Championship on Thursday as the #6 seed and will face #3 Morehead State in the first round at 11 a.m. in Clarksville, Tennessee, held at #1-seed Austin Peay.

The eight OVC wins is Southeast's best conference win total in the past five seasons. Southeast finishes the regular-conference season with an 8-8 record, which ties for fifth with SIUE.

Haley Bilbruck led the team with nine kills and seven digs in the regular-season finale Saturday.

Jacksonville State opened the match with an 11-5 edge, which prompted a Southeast timeout. Elissa Moylan then connected with a kill to cut the Gamecocks advantage to 14-8.

Annie Wehrheim added two rally stoppers to make the score, 21-15, before four straight points by JSU finished the set, 25-15.

The second frame was a direct contrast to the first set as SEMO hit the 10-point plateau first, 10-8, after a kill by Wehrheim coupled with a Gamecocks error.

Bilbruck then evened the set at 13-13 before Jacksonville State rallied off three points to pull ahead, 16-13.

JSU then added back-to-back kills from Lena Kindermann and Addie Halverson to extend its advantage to 20-16, which prompted a SEMO timeout.

After the stoppage, the Gamecocks captured the set with a 5-0 run, 25-16, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third and final set, a Mikayla Kuhlmann kill evened the set early at 3-3 before Halverson hit a kill to switch the lead in favor of JSU, 10-6.

A block assist by Maggie Adams and Madara Bajare then cut the deficit to 13-12. Jacksonville State increased its margin to 16-12 after a 3-0 rally.

Bajare then slammed a kill as JSU countered with a 4-0 run to grow its advantage to 20-13.

Kills from Adams and Kuhlmann combined with a Gamecocks error then chipped the lead to 21-17. Malloy added a service ace to pull within four, 23-19.

Bilbruck would then add a rally stopper and Krista Berns would place a service ace for the final Redhawk points as Kaylee Frear sealed the set, 25-21.

Kuhlmann was second on the team with eight kills.

Claire Ochs passed out 24 assists in the match.

Ally Dion chipped in six digs.
