Redhawks Fall to Bradley, 68-57

PEORIA, Ill. – Southeast Missouri (0-2) fell to Missouri Valley Conference member Bradley (2-0), 68-57, in a Saturday matinee at Carver Arena.

Freshman Sage Tolbert led SEMO with 13 points and eight rebounds in his first double-digit performance as a Redhawk. Ledarrius Brewer followed with 11 points and eight boards.

SEMO shot just 31.6 percent (18-of-57) from the field and 17.4 percent (4-of-23) from 3-point range.

The Redhawks held a one-point lead with 5:05 remaining in the first half on a Mark Laros layup. BU countered with a 11-0 run to take a double-digit lead and later pulled ahead, 31-23, at the half.

SEMO managed to get within five points on two occasions in the second half, but that was as close as it would get. The Braves used another hefty run, this time 18-8, to build its biggest lead of the afternoon at 64-45 with 3:30 to go.

Luuk van Bree made a 3-pointer on two of the Braves' last three possessions during that surge.

After that, BU's lead didn't dip below double figures again.

Tolbert shot 5-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 at the free throw line in 28 minutes, while Brewer made three field goals and went a perfect 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. Jonathan Dalton and Nygal Russell followed with nine and seven points, respectively.

Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye led the Braves with a game-high 22 points, including 13 at the free throw line. Darrell Brown added 14 points and Elijah Childs grabbed 11 rebounds.

Saturday's matchup marked SEMO's 300th against a MVC opponent.

The Redhawks host NCAA Division II affiliate Quincy in its home-opener Monday. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m., CT, at the Show Me Center.
