Southeast Concludes 2018 Tennis Schedule with Singles Sunday at Missouri State Fall Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's tennis closed its 2018 fall tournament schedule with singles play Sunday at the Missouri State Fall Invitational held at the Cooper Tennis Complex.
 
Anais Emelie captured the singles championship in the D Flight. She first beat Emma Davis of Southwest Baptist and then cruised by Missouri State's Brooke Smith, 6-1, 6-1. Emelie then fought past Smith's teammate, Phoebe Boeschen, 6-4, 1-6, 10-7.
 
Teona Velkoska finished fourth in the Flight B bracket. She started the singles tournament with wins over Klara Vickov (SBU) and MSU's Anna Alons before falling to Marli Van Heerden in the semifinals, 6-2, 6-3. Velkoska was then outlasted by Marta Oliveira of Missouri, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 10-5, in her final match Sunday.
 
Velkoska beat Vickov in back-to-back tiebreakers, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (3), and then overcame a first set loss to take down Alons, 3-6, 6-3, 12-10.
 
Romana Tarajova dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision to Central Arkansas' Fuka Nonoyama before consecutive wins to earn fifth in the top singles draw. Tarajova ousted Missouri State's Fati Khamissi, 7-5, 6-3, before fighting past Alye Darter (MSU), 6-3, 3-6, 10-5.
 
Isabella Krupa tallied two victories in the B Flight including her first round match over Louisiana Monroe's Shivani Manjanna, 6-3, 1-6, 10-4.
 
Kseniya Zonova, Manuela Barriga, Maja Lundell and Grace Powderly each had a win in their respective singles draws.
 
Barriga and Tarajova claimed their second doubles championship (Flight C) and Krupa and Velkoska placed second in the Flight B Doubles bracket on Friday.
 
Barriga and Tarajova were perfect with three straight victories on Friday. The duo eased by Missouri State's Courtney Potter and Brooke Smith, 6-1, before a 6-2 win over Tennessee State's Pragati Natraj and Madison Beckham.
 
In the championship final, Barriga and Tarajova defeated Phoebe Boeschen (MSU) and Marli Van Heerden (Central Arkansas), 6-4.
 
In the second doubles flight (B), Krupa and Velkoska advanced to the championship finals after back-to-back wins. The tandem beat Diana Cabrera and Constanca Crespo of Southwest Baptist, 6-2, and then recorded a 6-4 decision against Alye Darter and Mara Presot (MSU).
 
In the final, Krupa and Velkoska fell to Mei Ishimura and Yada Vasupongchai (UCA), 6-2.
 
Zonova and Sneha Sinha won the consolation A doubles bracket after they outlasted Qili Ma and Rada Manataweewat (UCA), 7-6 (9-7).
 
The Missouri State Fall Invitational concluded the Redhawks 2018 schedule of tournaments. Southeast starts its 2019 spring season on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 1 p.m. in Columbia, Missouri, against Missouri.
