Southeast Gymnastics Score 189.675 in Season Opener at Kentucky

Lexington, Ky. – The Southeast Missouri women's gymnastics team finished fourth with a score of 189.675 at their season-opening quad meet Friday evening in front of 10,006 fans at Rupp Arena.
Freshmen Michael Sanders, Lindsey Bates, Gabrielle Adams, Jordan Williams, Alana Fischer and sophomore Megan Dennis all made their Redhawk debuts in the 2018 opener.
Southeast started the quad meet on floor exercise with a 48.150. Alexis Brawner led SEMO on the discipline with a 9.800 in the anchor position. McKinzie Jones was second on the team with a 9.750. Bates scored a 9.675. McKenna Stanley added a 9.600 and Mackenzie Slee rounded out the rotation with a 9.325.
In the second rotation, Southeast competed on the vault. The Redhawks picked up a score of 48.350 on the apparatus. Brawner once again led the way for SEMO with a 9.800 to finish fifth at the meet on vault. Adams recorded a 9.750 for second-best on the team and her first-ever plus 9.700 score at SEMO. Sanders and Bates recorded identical 9.650 scores and Stanley had a 9.500.
The Redhawks then moved on to bars for the third rotation. Southeast totaled 46.100 on the uneven bars. Jones led the way for SEMO with a 9.675. Williams hit a 9.550 and Stanley added a score of 9.150 for third-best on the team.
Southeast finished the meet on the beam with a 47.075. Bates paced the Redhawks with a score of 9.575 and Sanders and Jones both added a 9.525. Williams scored a 9.475 for fourth.
Bates finished sixth in the all-around competition after she totaled 37.650. Her best event on the evening was floor.
Host school and #10-ranked Kentucky of the SEC led the way with a 196.075 followed by Ball State at second place with 194.475. #21-ranked George Washington placed third with 193.775.
The Redhawks host Illinois State in its home opener on Friday, Jan. 12 at Houck Field House in Cape. The meet starts at 6:30 p.m.
