ST. LOUIS – Kaitlyn Shea took home another first-place finish at the Forest Park Cross Country Festival in St. Louis. Southeast Missouri's men's and women's team both took home second place, each falling to host school St. Louis University.
This marks back-to-back first place finishes for SEMO junior Kaitlyn Shea after she took home first at the Walt Crawford Open last Friday. Shea beat out the second-place finisher by over 20 seconds, finishing with a time of 18:24.61.
Head coach Ryan Lane has been pleased with how Shea has looked to start the season. "She has put in a lot of work to get to the next level, so when she gets into every race she's just got this killer instinct," said Lane.
Although each team placed second out of only two Division I teams competing, Lane was pleased with how the race went, as the goals of this race wasn't necessarily to get the fastest times possible.
"We were working on running together as a team today, we came out very conservative," said Lane. "Neither team finished as highly as they would have had we raced all out, but this was a good opportunity to finish off our preseason and be ready to go at Louisville."
In the women's 5k Angie Sumner took home fourth-place overall with a time of 18:58.02, while Rachel Hutchcraft and Carli Knott each placed ninth and tenth with times of 19:23.62 and 19:28.25, respectively. Curtis Reed was top runner for the men's team in their 7.5k race, coming in at tenth overall with a time of 26:14.40.
The Southeast cross country teams won't compete again until September 30 at the Louisville Classic.
