LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Southeast Missouri's women's cross country team finished 29th, while the men placed 30th as a team in the Greater Louisville Classic Saturday morning in Kentucky.
Both teams were seeded in the Gold Race, which was the designated for the top tier of Division I teams competing, making the competition level high for the Redhawks. Northern Arizona took home first for the men and Boise State finished first as a team on the women's side.
Despite not having a high team finish for either team, head coach Ryan Lane was positive about the overall outcome and happy with the experience the team gained, given the type of meet they were at.
"It was the pre-nationals meet, so we knew it was going to be ridiculous," Lane said regarding the competition level. "I think if we ran the same race again next weekend, we would place a lot higher just because we would know what to expect."
On the men's side Curtis Reed finished first for SEMO with a time of 25:55.48 placing 148th overall in the 8k race. Griffin Bailey finished shortly after with a time of 25:57.7 good for a 152nd place finish. Both Reed and Bailey's times were their personal records, freshman Chris Durr also had a personal best time with 26:27.37.
In the women's 5k Kaitlyn Shea was the once again the top performer for the Redhawks, although she wasn't able to obtain another number one finish. Shea finished with a time of 18:03.69 and a 109th place finish. Angie Sumner finished at 143rd with a time of 18:21.26.
Southeast will have nearly two weeks off before they compete next in the Bradley Pink Classic on October 13, in Peoria, Illinois.
