CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Peoria, Ill. on Friday to compete in the Bradley Pink Classic for the fifth consecutive year.
The event will be held at Newman Golf Course, and SEMO will be represented in three different races at the meet. A handful of athletes will be running in the Open Race at 2:30 p.m. where the men will run an 8k and the women a 6k. The Red Race for the top runners begins at 3:15 p.m. for the men (8k) and 4 p.m. for the women (6k).
"It's a good meet to go to right before the conference meet because historically, we tend to run really well here," said head coach Ryan Lane.
On the women's side Lane says he hopes to have the team average close to 22:10 in the 6k race, and expects big performances from both Kaitlyn Shea and Angie Sumner.
"Kaitlyn and Angie have been training really hard and really well," said Lane. "This is the first week this entire season we've let them freshen up a bit, so for both of those two, we have pretty big expectations."
The men are looking at a fully healthy roster for the first time this season. "We're looking to just keep progressing, (the guys) have been better every meet so far, so we want to just keep the momentum going," said Lane.
Coach Lane also mentioned he's hoping to see Curtis Reed and Griffin Bailey mix it up with the top finishers, and also would like to see a 26:00 team average.
This will be the final meet for the Redhawks before they compete in the OVC Championships hosted by Eastern Illinois on October 28.
