Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Redhawks Ground Phoenix, 2-0

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Women's soccer (3-1) recorded its third shutout of the season Sunday afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Green Bay (0-4).
 
The offense was firing on all cylinders as the Redhawks posted 29 shots with 17 ending on goal. Esmie Gonzles not only scored the game winner in the 19th minute, she took a career-high eight shots with five of them on goal, also a career-best. Seven Redhawks contributed two or more shots in the game. Shelby Beussink also recorded career highs with five shots, three on goal.

Defensively, Lauren Kaempfe and Maddi Karstens played the full 90 minutes in the shutout, limiting Green Bay to only four shots. 
 
Kindra Lierz (2-1) continued her trek to breaking the career wins and solo shutouts record with win number 30 and shutout number 25. She played the full 90 minutes in the shutout, making one save.
 
Madison Holland (0-2) suffered the loss in goal for Green Bay. Holland played only 31 minutes before exiting with an injury. She made three saves and gave up both SEMO goals. Courtney Klatt played the final 59 minutes, making 10 saves.
 
The Phoenix committed a foul in the 19th minute. Karstens took the free kick from about 50 yards out, bent it into the keeper's box to a waiting Gonzales who headed it over the keeper and dead center in to the back of net. The goal was Gonzales' first of her sophomore campaign.
 
In the 32nd minute, Gozales tried for another goal but her shot was saved by the Holland who came out of goal. Lexi Grote picked up the rebound and scored into the empty net, widening the lead to 2-0 with her first career goal. 
 
At half and with a 2-0 lead, the Redhawks led in shots, 16-2, putting 12 on goal. Gonzales had five shots in the first 45 minutes while Grote had three.
 
Gonzales nearly made it 3-0 in the 85th minute when she dropped a shot from about 40 yards out. The shot over the keeper nearly went in but hit off the crossbar, ricocheted straight down, and out.
 
Southeast will hit the road for a matchup at Missouri State Friday evening at 5 p.m. Southeast will close the non-conference slate on Labor Day at home against Louisville.
