CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri women's tennis (12-5, 4-2) dropped a 6-1 decision to UT Martin (10-3, 6-0) Tuesday afternoon.
"Martin is a tough team, and I think we competed well today," said head coach
Mary Beth Gunn. "We had a great crowd today and good energy."
UTM swept the Redhawks in doubles to take an early lead.
Isabella Krupa and
Oleksandra Doroshenko battled at the top of the lineup but fell, 6-4.
Mila Majtan and
Ana Canahuate-Torres lost, 6-1, at the No. 3 position.
Kseniya Zonova and
Anais Emelie were down, 5-2, but did not finish their match.
In singles play, Doroshenko (No. 2) tallied the only win for Southeast, taking the match, 6-4, 7-6.
Annisa Warasanti hung tough at the No. 4 position, forcing a tiebreaker in both sets. She would drop both sets, 7-6, 7-6. Krupa (No. 1), Zonova (No. 3), Majtan (No. 5) and Emelie (No. 6) also lost their matches in straight sets.
The Redhawks will host Jacksonville State on Saturday, April 8 at 12 p.m., CT.
