
Redhawks Open Memphis Invite With Strong Showing

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Southeast Missouri wrapped up opening day competition on Friday evening at the Memphis Tiger Invitational.
Stephen Zagurski took second in the hammer throw, moving to third all-time in SEMO history with a distance of 189' 6" (57.78m). In the same event, Logan Blomquist moved to ninth in school history with a fifth-place finish of 173' 6" (52.88m).
Kayla Gutierrez took first on the women's end of the hammer throw, with a top mark of 188' 6" (57.45m). Jessenia Ellis also recorded a top-10 finish, taking ninth at 139' 1".
In javelin, Richard Vinson took third-place with a throw of 187' 1" (57.04m) while Andrew Ryan finished in ninth (162' 3"; 49.47m). Ty Crowden also recorded a distance of 91' 2" (27.79m) as Catherine Hopkins recorded a best throw of 103' (31.40m) on the women's side of the event.
Zach Gordon placed second in the long jump with top mark of 23' 10.25" (7.27m).Tre Curry had the next best mark for Southeast at 21' 6.75" (6.57m) while Crowden made his second appearance of the day with jump measuring 18' 10.75" (5.76m). Leslie Brooks took 10th in the women's portion with a best leap of 16' 3.75" (4.96m).
In running events, Danielle Mohrmann recorded the top 1500m time for the Redhawks in eighth at 4:47.38. Eilish Overby rounded out the top-10 at 4:52.20 followed closely by Natalie Kopplin (4:51.42). On the men's end, Nathan Cook had the best time for SEMO at 4:08.05. He was trailed closely by Nicholas Yaeger (4:08.98) and Curtis Reed (4:09.72).
Brannon Wright took fourth in the 200m dash, capturing eighth on Southeast's record list at 21.16.
The Redhawks will resume competition tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
