CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- Southeast Missouri women's tennis (13-7, 5-4) dropped their regular season finale, 6-1, against SIUE (19-0, 9-0) Saturday.
SIUE won at No. 2 and No. 3 in doubles to take the early advantage.
Mila Majtan and
Ana Canahuate-Torres fell, 6-1, at the No. 3 position. At No. 2,
Kseniya Zonova and
Anais Emelie fought hard but lost, 6-4.
Isabella Krupa and
Oleksandra Doroshenko were trailing 5-3 in their match but did not finish.
In singles play, Majtan (No. 5) collected the lone victory for the Redhawks, beating her opponent in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Zonova (No. 4) and Torres (No. 6) were both able to force a third set but eventually fell in the tiebreaker. Krupa (No. 1), Doroshenko (No. 2) and
Annisa Warasanti (No. 3) all dropped ther matches in straight sets.
The day concluded with a small senior day ceremony for Majtan and Warasanti. Cake and drinks were provided for the team, staff members and fans in attendance.
SEMO will head to the Ohio Valley Conference tournament next weekend to conlcude the 2016-17 season.
