ST. LOUIS -- Southeast Missouri (1-2) dropped a tough matchup against Saint Louis Wednesday afternoon. Despite the loss, the Redhawks didn't go quietly as they forced SLU to earn each victory.
Opening the day with doubles,
Isabella Krupa and
Oleksandra Doroshenko manned the top of the lineup dropping a close match, 6-4, to SLU's top duo of Elenore Tchakarova and Verginie Tchakarova.
Kseniya Zonova and
Anais Emelie (No. 2) played well against Ally McKenzie and Cassie McKenzie but ultimately fell, 6-3. Head coach
Mary Beth Gunn decided to make a change in the No. 3 position, giving the nod to
Ana Canahuate-Torres and
Joanne Hollings. They lost, 6-1, to Mariluiz Rojo Domingo and Ariana Rodriguez.
In singles play, Zonova collected SEMO's win, downing the Billikens' Ally McKenzie, 7-5, 6-1, at the No. 3 position. Doroshenko (No. 2) and
Annisa Warasanti (No. 4) each played their opponent to three sets but eventually fell.
Mila Majtan fought hard at the No. 5 position, losing a hard-fought battle, 7-5, 6-4. Krupa and Emelie dropped their matches at the No. 1 and No. 6 positions, respectively.Â
SEMO will resume play Saturday against Western Illinois (3 p.m.).
