Redhawks End Season With 1-0 Loss to Racers

MURRAY, Ky. - Fifth-seeded Southeast Missouri (8-8-4) saw a nice  run come to an end with a 1-0 loss to top-seeded Murray State (14-1-2) Friday in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.

SEMO came on strong down the stretch winning five matches in a row before falling to the Racers today.

The Redhawks and Racers each had three shots in the first half, where Miyah Watford's goal in the 29th minute turned out to be the game-winner.

SEMO managed to get just two shots in the second half, both of which were on goal.

The Redhawks had their chances for the equalizer, but simply came up short.

First-Team All-OVC midfielder Esmie Gonzales netted three shots in the game and had a good chance to score. Gonzales dribbled the ball to the top of the box and fired a shot that was saved by goalkeeper Alex Steigerwald. Lauren Kaempfe also had an opportunity, but Steigerwald made a leaping save.

Murray State edged SEMO in shots (6-5) and shots on goal (3-2).

Kindra Lierz closed out her outstanding college career with a 5-7-4 record in goal this season. Lierz recorded 33 wins as the Redhawks keeper since 2014.

The Racers will face Eastern Kentucky in the OVC Tournament Championship Sunday.
