LAWRENCE, Kan. – The six-member Southeast Missouri women's tennis team continued their fall slate of tournaments at the 2017 ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Central Regional Championship presented by Oracle at the University of Kansas this past weekend.

Kseniya Zonova led the Redhawks with a semifinals finish in the consolation singles bracket and Oleksandra Doroshenko added a quarterfinals consolation singles finish.

"As a team this tournament was a great experience for us," head coach
Mary Beth Gunn said of the opportunity to face strong competition in the fall. "We should feel confident about our playing ability after having some big wins this weekend."

In Sunday's consolation semifinal, Zonova dropped her match to Arkansas State's Berta Masip, 6-3, 6-3.

Zonova cruised by Reghan Lynch of Northern Iowa, 6-1, 6-3, on Friday in her first consolation singles match. She then beat North Dakota's Carmen Palumbo, 6-1, 6-3.

Zonova continued her tournament with a win over Iowa's Adorabol Huckleby, 6-1, 6-4, in the Round of 16s. She then downed Cassie McKenzie of Saint Louis, 6-3, 6-0, in the quarterfinals to advance to Sunday's semifinal.

Doroshenko beat two tennis players from Minnesota en route to a quarterfinals finish in the consolation draw. She opened the bracket with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Minnesota's River Hart and then beat Arkansas State's Shelby King, 6-3, 6-3.

In the Round of 16s, Doroshenko took down Cammy Frei also of Minnesota, 6-4, 6-4. She then fell in the quarterfinals against Minnesota's Camila Vargas Gomez, 1-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Isabella Krupa lost to Simran Kaur Sethi (Oklahoma) in her first consolation match on Friday, 6-4, 6-2.

Alessandra Maya Thompson beat Morgan Brower of South Dakota State on Friday, 6-4, 6-1. In her second match, Maya Thompson fell to Natalia Bravo (Western Illinois), 6-4, 6-2.

Anais Emelie and Maja Lundell fell to Christiana Brigante/Simran Kaur Sethi (Oklahoma), 8-5. Doroshenko and Krupa then lost to Kansas State's Rosanna Maffei and Ines Mesquita, 8-4. Zonova and Maya Thompson then dropped their doubles match to Minnesota's Karyna Bihel and Camila Vargas Gomez, 8-5.

In singles, Doroshenko lost to Christiana Brigante of Oklahoma, 6-2, 7-6 (4), Maya Thompson fell to Iowa's #17-seed Yufei Long, 6-1, 6-1. Zonova then was beat by #17-seed Ines Mesquita of Kansas State, 6-2, 6-4, and Oklahoma State's #9-seed Katrina Stresnakova defeated Krupa, 6-0, 6-1.
Oklahoma State swept the singles and doubles tournament. Sofia Blanco and Vladica Babic captured the doubles championship. Babic won the singles championship.Â
