CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri soccer (5-7-3, 2-3-3) picked up its second Ohio Valley Conference victory of the season Friday evening in shutout fashion over Eastern Illinois (5-10-2, 0-7-1) by a 3-0 clip.

Esmie Gonzales netted a pair of goals in the opening half to put the Redhawks up 2-0. It was the sophomore's second two-goal game of her career. She co-led the team with four shots with
Shelby Beussink, who netted SEMO's third goal.

The Redhawks and Panthers matched each other's 13 shots on the evening with the Redhawks putting four on goal and EIU putting five.

Kindra Lierz and
Maddie Gleeson split time in net Friday evening with Lierz playing the first half. Lierz made one stop while Gleeson recorded three. The two combined for the shutout of the Panthers.

Sara Teteak played the full 90 minutes in goal for EIU. She made one save but gave up all three Redhawk goals. Â

Bri Caccavale played the entire 90-minute affair.

Gonzales went back-to-back in just over a minute, a minute and five seconds to be exact, netting two unassisted goals to put SEMO up 2-0 in the 43
rd minute of the match. The goals were her third and fourth goals of the season.

SEMO entered the locker room at half with a 2-0 lead while also leading in shots 8-5. Gonzales was responsible for four shots while Beussink had three. The Redhawks took the lone corner kick of the opening stanza.

Seven minutes into the second half, Beussink netted her second goal in as many games to widen the SEMO lead to 3-0. Hilliard crossed the ball right in front of the net for Beussink to tap it in for the score.

The Redhawks were outshot in the second half 8-5. Gleeson shut the Panthers out in the half, recording three saves.

SEMO's three goals ties a season high. Southeast scored three against Illinois Springfield on Aug. 20.

Southeast is back in action Sunday at 2 p.m. at Houck Field as the Redhawks take on SIUE. Sunday's game will be the annual Meg Herndon Memorial Game.
