Series History
Southeast Missouri trails in the all-time series to Austin Peay, 22-29. SEMO is 11-14 against the Govs in Clarksville, including dropping the last two in the Dunn Center. A season ago, the Redhawks were victorious at home on Jan. 30, 71-69, but fell in the regular-season finale on the road, 74-71.
Scouting the Govs
Austin Peay defeated Murray State in its only game last week. Senior Tearra Banks was one of two Governors to record double-doubles in the win. She led the way with 23 points and 12 rebounds. It was her seventh double-double of the year and 14th of her career. She also moved to 12th in all-time scoring at Austin Peay. Banks is the reining OVC Player of the Week. Austin Peay fell to UT Martin on the road Wednesday, 83-80. The win was UT Martin's second home OVC win of the season. Banks scored 27 points in the game and was one of four Govs in double-figure scoring. Beth Rates earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Govs suffered the loss despite shooting 48.5 percent. APSU is 10-11 on the season and an even 4-4 in league play; at home, the Govs are 7-4, 2-2 in OVC play. Banks is the lone Gov averaging double-digit points with 17.9 points per game. She also leads the team with 7.8 rebounds a game. In conference games, she ranks second in the league with 20.6 PPG while her .657 OVC shooting percentage is tops in the league.
A Look Back
The Redhawks defeated Murray State Wednesday, 79-70, to record its first OVC win at the Show Me Center this season. Southeast was led by four double-digit point performances.
Bri Mitchell recorded her second-straight 20-point game, turning in 25 points. She was two short of tying a career best. 17 of her 25 points came in the second half.
Adrianna Murphy recorded her second career double-double, first of the season, with 15 points and 11 rebounds, both tying career bests. The sophomore had a career-best seven steals with five assists. Other notable performances included 14 points from
Hannah Noe and 13 from
Ashton Luttrull.
Mandy Madden finished the contest with eight points and seven rebounds. Southeast forced the Racers into 21 turnovers, resulting in 20 points off turnovers for the Redhawks. Southeast also had 13 steals in the contest. As a team, the Redhawks shot 42.5 percent. A 61.1 percent shooting performance in the fourth quarter raised SEMO's shooting from 36.4 at the end of the third.
Leaving Their Legacy
Southeast's two seniors,
Olivia Hackmann and
Bri Mitchell, are the newest inductees to the Southeast Missouri Women's Basketball 1,000-Point Club. Hackmann scored her 1,000th point on Dec. 31 while Mitchell was inducted on Jan. 21. They are the 17th and 18th all-time members to the club, eighth and ninth of SEMO's Division I era. Sonya Daugherty and Tarina Nixon (2005-09) were the last inducted into the club, also doing it in the same season.
Hackmann Sidelined Indefinitely
Redshirt-senior
Olivia Hackmann underwent successful surgery on her right foot Friday, Jan. 20. She is listed as out indefinitely. Hackmann goes down as SEMO's leading scorer this season with 19.6 points per game in league play.
Assisting Milestone
Bri Mitchell currently has 294 assists in a Redhawk uniform, ranking ninth all-time. 300 career assists would move the senior into seventh. Only six other Southeast Missouri players have recorded 300 assists in their career.
Sharp Shooting Sniper
Junior guard
Hannah Noe hit her 100th career 3-pointer in the game at UT Martin on Jan. 14. Her 104 3-pointers ranks seventh all-time at SEMO. The record, held by Julie Meier (1991-95) is 174. Her 54 makes this season ranks ninth. The single-season record is 68 makes from long range held by Natalie Purcell (2005-06).
Wiping the Glass
Southeast Missouri ranks 26th nationally, third in the OVC, in total rebounds with 852; however, Southeast's 40.57 rebounds per game ranks 79th nationally. Southeast is 7-4 when it outrebounds its opponents. With only 30 teams ranked in the category, SEMO ranks 24rd in the country with 16 offensive rebounds per game, a figure that leads the OVC. A season-high 32 offensive boards against Lipscomb (Dec. 6) resulted in 30 second-chance points, also a season best.
Taking Better Care of the Ball
Since back-to-back 20+ turnover games against Louisiana and Alcorn State, the Redhawks have improved its handling of the ball. In 14 games, the Redhawks have had 13 or less turnovers in eight including two games with just eight (Stephens College) and seven (Tennessee Tech) turnovers. Following the Louisiana game, Southeast averaged 4.3 more turnovers a game than its opponents. SEMO has worked to average 1.0 turnover less than its opponents.
Redhawks for THREE!
As a team, Southeast Missouri ranks 26th nationally in 3-point field goals made (154) and 43rd in 3-point field goal percentage (.364). In the OVC, the Redhawks rank fourth in 3-pointers made and second in 3-point shooting.
