Volleyball Falls In OVC Opener

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri volleyball (1-14, 0-1 OVC) fell to Austin Peay (10-6, 1-0 OVC) in straight sets (25-9, 25-20, 25-22) Friday night at the Winfield Dunn Center.

Nzingha Clarke opened the match with a quick kill before Austin Peay captured momentum. The Govs would roll to a 25-9 opening set victory.

Battling back-and-forth, the Redhawks maintained a slight lead through the first half of game two. APSU was able to overtake SEMO as well as fend off a late comeback to take the two-game match advantage. During the set, the Redhawks sported a strong hitting clip of .346 behind Krissa Gearring (three kills, .429 percentage) and Alyssa Wolslegel (three kills, .500 percentage). Marie Less also registered four kills in the frame.

Trailing late in the third, the Redhawks attempted to stage another late comeback and avoid defeat but would go on to be swept by the Govs.

Less finished the night with a team-leading eight kills while Wolslegel followed with seven and a .429 hitting clip. Jade Mortimer led defensively with 12 digs.

Southeast will close the conference-opening road trip the Murray State Racers tomorrow at 2 p.m.
