SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's soccer suffered its second consecutive loss Sunday when it was shut out by Missouri State (3-4-2), 1-0.

The Redhawks will begin Ohio Valley Conference play next week with a 6-2-1 non-conference record.

Southeast fell in the match despite firing off nearly twice as many shots as the Bears, 15-8. Southeast landed eight of its shots on goal while MSU had four.

The Redhawks were called for a season-low five fouls in the match.

Kindra Lierz (6-2-1) suffered the loss in goal after allowing the game winner in the 67
th minute. Lierz picked up three saves in her hometown.

Evan Stamp (3-4-2) earned the shutout win for the Bears. Stamp made eight saves in the match.

Esmeralda Gonzales had a season-high six shots, putting three on goal, also a season high. Gonzales led the Redhawks in both categories on Sunday.
Paige Blankenheim had three shots and put two on goal.

At the end of the first half, SEMO led in shots 7-4 while also leading in shots on goal, 3-2. Gonzales led the Redhawks with three shots, putting one on goal.

Fouls remained low in the first half as Missouri State was called on three fouls and SEMO had two.

The Bears' Brooke Zimmerman scored her second goal of the 2016 season in the 67
th minute to put Missouri State on the board, 1-0.

Missouri State was able to fend off the Redhawks the remainder of the half to pick up the 1-0 victory.

Aside from Lierz playing all 90 minutes in goal,
Alexis Hacker and
Maddi Karstens played the full 90 minutes on defense for SEMO.

Southeast Missouri will open OVC play Friday at Eastern Illinois at 3 p.m. The Redhawks will then take on OVC rival SIUE on Sunday at 2 p.m.
