CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri baseball (31-13) fell to Saint Louis University (20-25) Tuesday evening at Capaha Field, 12-8.

A seven-run sixth inning by the Billikens was too much for the Redhawks to overcome late in the contest.

The Redhawks fell 12-8 despite outhitting the opponent, 13-11. The Redhawks left 14 runners on base.

Branden Boggetto powered the Redhawks' offense finishing 2-for-5 with three RBI, three runs scored, a walk, and a triple.

Jacob Lawrence pitched five complete innings in his start, allowed four runs, one unearned, on three hits. He struck out five and walked three.

Jake Busiek (1-1), despite facing only two hitters, suffered the loss. He allowed the go-ahead run to reach in the sixth inning. Southeast used six total pitchers in the game.

Ryan Lefner (2-1) was the winning pitcher as he was the pitcher of record when SLU took the lead in the sixth. Josh Moore started the game and pitched only one inning. Jackson Wark relieved Moore and pitched three and a third innings, the most of Saint Louis' seven pitchers.

Trevor Ezell led off the game with a single through the right side. He advanced to second on a groundout and tagged up and took third on a foul out down the first base line. A two-out wild pitch allowed Ezell to score and give Southeast a 1-0 lead in the first.

A leadoff home run off the bat of Devin Mahoney in the top of the second tied the contest at one run apiece.

Michael Bozarth began the Billiken half of the third with a leadoff walk. He stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. SLU took a 2-1 lead when Josh Bunselmeyer singled to center, scoring Bozarth.

Ezell followed suit with a leadoff walk in the bottom of the inning. He scored all the way from first on a triple ripped to left center by Boggetto, tying the game at 2-2. Boggetto scored on a groundout to second by
Garrett Gandolfo, putting Southeast back on top, 3-2.

Southeast added another run in the fifth inning. After back-to-back walks to Boggetto and Gandolfo,
Chris Caffrey singled to left, plating Boggetto and widening the lead to 4-2.

Saint Louis sent 11 men to the plate and scored seven runs on five hits and a leadoff Redhawk error in the sixth inning to take a commanding 9-4 lead on Southeast.

A wild pitch by
Adam Pennington in the top of the seventh allowed another SLU run to score, making it a 10-4 game.

Daniel Costello singled to left in the bottom of the inning, scoring Caffrey and narrowing the lead to five, 10-5.

A two-RBI double off the bat of Braxton Martinez made it a 12-5 game in the top of the eighth.

Dan Holst drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the eighth, advanced to second on a passed ball, then scored on a single to center by Boggetto. Boggetto scored all the way from first when Gandolfo doubled down the right field line, cutting the SLU lead to 12-7.

Nick Vichio entered to pitch the ninth inning for the Billikens.
Scott Mitchell led off with a single to center then was awarded second on a balk on Vichio. Back-to-back walks to Ezell and Holst loaded the bases for Boggetto with one out. A groundout by Boggetto scored Mitchell for his third RBI of the night. The ninth-inning comeback fell short however, 12-8. Â

Aside from Boggetto, Ezell, Gandolfo, and Caffrey all had two hits in the game. Gandolfo had a pair of RBI.

Parker Sniatynski put up three hits for the Billikens but Martinez drove in four runs on three hits.

The Redhawks will head to Cookeville, Tennessee to face Ohio Valley Conference foe Tennessee Tech this weekend. First pitch in game one will be Friday at 6 p.m.
