Farley Advances to NCAA Championships; Sets School Record

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Southeast Missouri's Kevin Farley has qualified for the 2016 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships after setting two new personal records at the West Preliminary Saturday.

Farley began the day by setting a new personal best in the discus of 58.34m (191' 5") to place fifth. Later in the day, he broke the school record in shot put with a toss of 18.93m (62' 1.25"), placing seventh. Farley held the previous school record in outdoor shot put, setting the previous mark at 18.89m (61' 11.75") in 2013.

By finishing the top 12, Farley advances in both events to the national championship. It will be Farley's second appearance in shot put, placing seventh in 2013, while it will be his first in discus.

Chris Martin nearly qualified as well, placing 14th in the triple jump. His leap of 15.70m (51' 6.25") was a season-best mark.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Brannon Wright, Brandon Chunn, Jordan Barber and Jarred Pasley took 20th with a time of 3:10.01.

"I am so happy for Kevin coming through with two huge personal records today to send himself to Oregon," commented head coach Eric Crumpecker. "I am proud of all our regional qualifiers for getting here and for the way they competed. It has been a good outdoor season and it will be nice to wrap it up with a trip to the national meet."

The NCAA National Championships will be held in Eugene, Oregon on June 8-11. The men's shot put is currently scheduled for June 8 while the men's discus will be held on June 10.
